I rode my bike
Through the Central Valley at dawn
There were endless fields of rice
Shrouded in the fog
Where a waterbird took flight
Disappeared into the morning sky
And the road passed me by

The empty parking lots
Where the factories shutdown
Their smoke stacks tall and white
Stood without a sound
Above the misty fields
As I waited for the Spring
I drank the steaming air
As the sun began rising
And the dream began to lift
As I listened to the sound of my wheels spin
And the Sun came pouring in...

Pulling into town
Or what remained of it
I went into the store
The last one that was left
An orange and a rose
And a couple dusty stamps
"Greetings from California"
Was all the postcard said
