Going East, up the coast
Old Blue rumbling through the mist
Bright lights at early silver dawn
The painted waves rising on the sun
Across the banks from where we sit
In the van you watched morning come
Smoke rising on the edge of town
Soft blue sky falling to the ground
Shifting light in an unsteady wind
I've fallen for you again
We chase the edges of the sky
The flower covered cliffs of coastline
Return again you unselfish wind
Blow me back to Lubec again
But who are you that sings in this early silver dawn?
And who are you that talks to the flowers in the fog?
And who are you that walks in the meadows after dark?
And who are you that calls us back when we have gone?
Eastern light on a North facing day
Across the border line we lay
A promise made on Herring Bay
To love you in all ways
But walking through this soft Summer rain
Flowers grew on the path we made
Roving out along the banks
Of clouds at dusk
But knowing that our time had a place
Knowing that the lights here fade
Knowing that this endless change
Will follow us
But heading South like birds on the wind
The tired engine sweetly sings
We know we'll return again
Like the dawn of the Spring
